Espen Spangenburg, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Exercise Physiology

Dr. Spangenburg's laboratory focuses on defining how cellular signaling mechanisms that regulate metabolic function are altered under conditions of reduced estrogen function across a variety of tissues. The lab utilizes an integrative approach to address these questions, which includes the use of cell culture, animal models and human studies. Ultimately, the goal of the laboratory is to define interventions that could prevent metabolic disease in women experiencing reductions in estrogen function. We currently exploring the use of physical activity and various nutriotional interventions as means to prevent metabolic disease in women.
