Department of Kinesiology : Meet Our Graduate Students

Agashe, Harshavardhan   Graduate Research Assistant, Kinesiology

  • Research Areas : Cognitive Motor Neuroscience

  • Hometown : Pune, India

  • Academic Background : B.Tech. in Engineering Physics

  • Program Start Date : Fall 2007

Current Research :

My research involves decoding finger movements and grasp configurations from non-invasive brain signals. The idea is to be able to predict the movement direction, the arm orientation and preshaping, and finger configuration as a person extends his/her arm to grasp everyday objects. The starting point for the prediction is the EEG/MEG data which is recorded simultaneously and processed along with kinematic data as the person grasps an object.

Planned Career Path :
As of now I am undecided between a career in academics and one as a scientist in R&D of companies.

Skills & Qualities :
My passion is to understand the working of the biological brain and apply it to novel artificial systems. I have strong analytic skills stemming from my background in Engineering Physics, which I intend to apply to this end.
