Current Research :
My research emphasis in cognitive motor neuroscience mirrors my clinical specialty in balance rehabilitation for vestibular disorders. I am currently investigating the role of vision on postural stability during walking for healthy subjects. I am also investigating novel approaches to visual feedback to improve postural control in dynamic situations.
I intend to further this research into investigations of visual reliance in patient populations who depend excessively on visual information for control of balance with the goal of translating that research into changes in rehabilitation directions for those patients.
Interesting Fact :
I coached PeeWee Ice Hockey in Texas for 5 years while I was in college.
Planned Career Path :
Upon successful completion of my doctoral studies, I plan to seek a post-doctoral position at a program with different approaches to studying vestibular disorders. I plan to seek a position teaching and researching postural control in a Physical therapy educational program.
Skills & Qualities :
As a practicing physical therapist, I specialize in the treatment of all balance impairments, with a special interest in vestibular disorders. I successfully completed the Susan Herdman Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation at Emory University in 2006. I co-developed the Better Balance Program at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, LA in 2005. I performed clinical research involving fall risk assessments for individuals with balance impairments.
