KNES Printer Installation Instructions
To minimize costs with toner, the department has centralized the printers. If you are located on the second floor of the bldg, your work should be sent to the Xerox machine [5665] located in the room (#2338) . If you work on the "west wing" of the building (basement floor), you may send your work to print at the Xerox machine [5638] located in the room 0116.
In order to have access to the printers you MUST install the printer drivers in your computer. Here's the link where you will find detailed instructions for Mac and Windows (both 32-bit and 64-bit) users. It is up to you if you want to install drivers on your laptop as well.
Once you already have the software installed in your computer, this is how you enable the accounting: go to Start>Printers, then right clicking on the Xerox and going to Properties. Then you should follow steps 15 and 16 described on the website. To print your work you must enter a personal code (which you can set as default, so you do need to enter it each time).
Your current code is the four last digits of your UMD ID. If you have any problems with your code, or want to change it for some reason, please contact Jessica Duque in the business office. This code could also be used for copies (not just printing) in both Xerox machines.
*ATTENTION*: The user has to have Admin rights on the computer in order to install either Xerox drivers. The generic "KNES" accounts might or might not have Admin rights. If you can't install the drivers please fill out the computer ticket. The IT person will have to come and install the drivers for you.
Final reminders:
- Note that teaching material (e.g. exams) must be submitted to Joanna, and not printed/copied with your personal code. The printers automatically track online the amount of copies and pages that you print/copy.
- The business office sets individual printing/copy quota.
- Please, make sure you pick up your job. This is a "self-organized" area and there are not people in these rooms to handle your papers. Your work will be sitting at the printer waiting for you. If not, look inside the hanging folder cart (that is labeled with your name).
- Please help us to keep these printing areas well organized and clean.
- We are recycling the yellow cover pages (which has your name on it). Before you leave the printing area, do not forget to drop the yellow over sheet in the proper tray (on the desk).
- We have been running both machines for while and they look very stable (not many problems with paper jam or such). If you have any difficulty with the printer, please contact the Main Office immediately. Please do not try to fix the problem yourself. The main office staffs were trained to solve problems with these machines.
