(Associate Professor, Department of Behavioral and Community Health; Co-Director, Center for Health Behavior Research) completed her PhD in 2001 at St. Louis University in applied and experimental psychology. She was an Assistant Professor there before moving to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. She joined the UM in 2008. Her health disparities research involves community-based health communication studies, and the role of culture in health cognitions and behaviors. She has been PI of 7 randomized trials examining cancer communication interventions for African Americans. Dr. Holt has a long mentoring history at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level. Most of the individuals that she works with are from under-represented backgrounds. Dr. Holt has worked with the UM STARs for three years. She is one of several research mentors participating in the Kellogg Foundation/American Academy of Health Behavior training program in community-based participatory research.
