(Associate Professor, Department Behavioral and Community Health; Director, Horowitz Center for Health Literacy) received her PhD in 1999 from Syracuse in mass communication. She then became an Assistant Professor in the UM Department of Communication and in 2011 joined the UM School of Public Health. She has ~35 publications and has many years of diverse mentoring experiences with undergraduate and graduate students. Virtually every semester she provides numerous independent studies and research guidance for graduate students. She also mentors students after the completion of their degree in terms of professional development, presentations, and manuscript submissions. Her research expertise involves the use of mass communication and health literacy relative to major ongoing public health issues.
