Certificate, Global Health
Certificate in Global Health, Post-Baccalaureate
The Graduate Certificate in Global Health is designed to provide basic knowledge in global health delivery to those employed or seeking employment in positions requiring this knowledge or to individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree and desire this added credential. The Global Health Certificate provides knowledge of issues, policies, and practices in global health that enables individuals (many of whom do not have public health backgrounds) to work effectively in agencies and programs providing global health services. As an area for study, research, and practice, global health emphasizes translational health issues, synthesizing population-based prevention with evidenced-based, community-supported initiatives.
This 12-credit Global Health Certificate consists of 9 required credits, and 3 credits of electives. It is anticipated that students will take one year (2 semesters plus summer/winter) to complete the certificate.
Current graduate students within the School of Public Health may enroll in courses that fulfill the requirements of the Certificate in Global Health. There are several steps and regulations students must follow in order to pursue simultaneous completion of the certificate and their primary degree. If you would like to earn your certificate concurrently to earning a graduate degree at SPH, please review this document for necessary steps, as well as the Intention to Complete form.
Non-UMD students who would like to pursue the Certificate in Global Health should visit the UMD Graduate School Admissions page for detailed application steps.
