The Department of Family Science at the University of Maryland has an unparalleled location only 9 miles from the heart of Washington, D.C., and a short drive to Baltimore and the state's capitol in Annapolis. The U.S. Capitol building is only 8 miles from the campus. The resources of the National Institutes of Health, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives are also nearby.
This location offers students and faculty first-hand access to hundreds of research and service opportunities in the private, non-profit, and public sectors in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. Students have opportunities to complete exciting internships in government agencies, think tanks, corporate offices, the military services, and leading national child and family organizations. Students also have the chance to observe and become engaged in public policy-making and family advocacy at the local, state, national, and international levels.
