Parent Seminars & Other Local Events
Our lab hosts monthly parent seminars at the University of Maryland College Park that are open to anyone interested in learning more about Developmental Coordination Disorder. The seminars are typically held on the 1st or 2nd Monday of each month from 7 - 8:30pm. The seminars are great opportunities for parents, researchers, and rehabilitation specialists to come together to discuss relevant topics of interest to understanding DCD.
Previous topics have included:
- Home activities to improve handwriting
- Brain research insights into motor planning and sensorimotor integration difficulties
- Genetic approaches to understanding developmental disorders
- Games to promote physical activity/fitness in children with coordination difficulties
- ADHD and it's relationship with DCD
Children are free to come to the seminar. The children are supervised and have opportunities to play games and other activities prepared for them in advanced.
We have also developed an online classroom that will allow those outside the DC Metropolitan area to participate in the seminars. We will also have the capability of posting the material from the invited talks and discussions (as movie files) onto the online classroom space for those unable to attend/participate in the meeting in real time.
If you would like to be added to our email list and receive updates on upcoming parent seminars and other local events, please contact Melissa Pangelinan or call 301-405-6872. If you are interested in the online classroom option, please let me know.
