Film Screening: Sustainable Nation
Join CONSERVE: A Center of Excellence at the Nexus of Sustainable Water Reuse, Food, and Health for a screening of the film Sustainable Nation followed by a conversation with SPH faculty and CONSERVE team members.
Sustainable Nation, presented by the Washington Jewish Film Festival, follows three extraordinary individuals — including CONSERVE collaborator Clive Lipchin from the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies — doing their part to bring sustainable water access to an increasingly thirsty planet. Using solutions developed in water-poor Israel, they are working to change the status quo of a world where one in ten people lacks access to safe drinking water. But water is just the beginning. The work of this visionary trio highlights the nexus between food, energy, and water and underscores how solving these enormous challenges can help liberate women specifically, and the world at large, from life-threatening poverty, illness, and lack of opportunity.
The May 22nd screening will be followed by a conversation with filmmaker Micah Smith, Amy R. Sapkota (Professor, UMD School of Public Health and Director, CONSERVE: A Center of Excellence at the Nexus of Sustainable Water Reuse, Food and Health), William Piermattei, (CONSERVE Collaborator and Director of the Environmental Law Program at the University of Maryland), and Debra L. Weinstein (CONSERVE Program Manager).
