Public Health Grand Rounds with Pulitzer Prize winning Journalist Dan Fagin
This event has passed, but the lecture can be viewed online: Connecting the Dots in Toms River and Beyond.
The Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health is pleased to host science and environmental journalist Dan Fagin for a Grand Rounds lecture, "Connecting the Dots in Toms River and Beyond," about his Pulitzer prize-winning book Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation. The event is co-sponsored by the UMD Philip Merrill College of Journalism.
A reception and book signing from 4-5 pm in the Friedgen Family Student Lounge (room 2236) will follow his talk, which will include an opportunity to purchase his book.
The story of a small town ravaged by industrial pollution, Toms River melds hard-hitting investigative reporting, a fascinating scientific detective story, deep historical research and unforgettable characters into a sweeping narrative that weaves a complex tale of powerful industry, local politics, water rights, epidemiology, public health and cancer in a gripping, page-turning environmental thriller.
Dan Fagin is an associate professor and director of the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program at New York University.
