Dr. Patricia D. Mail receives HHP Alumni Award 2007
On Saturday, April 14, 2007, the Maryland Family honored and celebrated the achievements of 20 individuals at the Eighth Annual Alumni Association Awards Gala.
Dr. Patricia D. Mail received the College of HHP Alumni Award. She has spent the better part of her career helping others battle the ravages of alcohol abuse and HIV/AIDS. She has focused on addressing these problems in underserved areas, particularly in American Indian populations., in her assignments at the NIH; the Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Administration; the Health Services and Resource Administration; the Office of the Surgeon General; and the Indian Health Service. She currently consults on Native American substance use issues. A fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology and an honorary fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health, Mail is immediate past president and now chairs the executive board of the American Public Health Association. She has been honored extensively for her work, including the U.S. PHS surgeon general's medallion and exemplary service medal.
