This article examines changing regulations and challenges facing the farming and fishing industries on Maryland's Eastern Shore. New EPA standards could significantly impact the chicken industry on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “It’s not just the stinky smells,” MIAEH’s Dr. Sacoby Wilson said about air pollution from animal waste. “There are different contaminants (coming from the chicken houses) that can impact your eyes, nose, throat, mood, cause asthma and contribute to other respiratory conditions. Right now they (growers) don’t have to have any technology to reduce emissions coming out of those houses, so this is actually a game changer,” Dr. Wilson said.
