The Maryland state legislature passed on Friday, March 24, 2017 a bond bill for $100,000 to help build a health and wellness facility at the Mona Center, a joint project among the SPH’s Maryland Center for Health Equity (M-CHE), Catholic Charities, and Doctor’s Community Hospital.

The Mona Center is now under construction in Temple Hills, Maryland. In addition to the medical clinic and wellness center, which will directly benefit from the bond funds, the center will also house a dental clinic, legal services, a community garden and teaching kitchen, and an array of programming to address job readiness, physical activity, nutrition literacy and access to healthy foods.

The Center will “address a broad range of health disparities and improve quality of life for underserved Prince George’s County residents,” M-CHE Director Dr. Stephen Thomas said.

Another proposal for funding support has been submitted to M-Power in collaboration with the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Pharmacy to facilitate research at Mona Center and in West Baltimore.
