Family Science Professor Leigh Leslie is the 2017 recipient of the Kathleen Briggs Outstanding Mentor Award from the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). The award recognizes an outstanding mentor of students and new professionals in marriage and family therapy each year.

Dr. Leslie will be recognized for her achievements at the 2017 NCFR Annual Conference, which will be held in Orlando, Florida on November 15-18, 2017.

“Leigh not only supports students to get their degree, but provides them with enriched experiences that maximize their possibilities for success," department chair Elaine Anderson said. "She has convinced numbers of couple and family therapy masters students they could do research, worked with them on their research and then encouraged them to apply for a PhD program. She annually supports student research by helping them to submit posters to professional conferences. She continues her mentoring relationships with many students after they graduate. She is a life-long mentor.”

NCFR is a nonprofit professional association that supports multidisciplinary family research, practice, and education. Dr. Leslie was elected President-Elect of the NCFR Board of Directors earlier this year.
