Dr. Stephen Thomas, director of the Maryland Center for Health Equity (M-CHE) and professor in the Department of Health Services Administration, was among seven university members and two community members honored by the Office of Community Engagement at their second annual “Making a Difference” award ceremony on Dec. 3rd. 

The Diamondback reported that “The award recipients were chosen based on their involvement in programs that work on addressing public service issues, building relationships, providing resources and sharing knowledge, in order to benefit the community,” according to Office of Community Engagement Director Gloria Aparicio Blackwell. 

Among the contributions that Dr. Thomas was recognized for were M-CHE’s partnership with the Al-Huda Muslim school in College Park, and for their work to organize two Mission of Mercy free dental clinic (one in 2014, one in 2017), in partnership with Catholic Charities. 

"It's just a small token of appreciation to the community," Blackwell said.
