What is the Mid-Maryland Mission of Mercy (MOM) & Health Equity Festival?
The 2017 Mid-MD MOM & Health Equity Festival was held September 8-10 at UMD’s Xfinity Center. Dental services were provided by licensed dentists and hygienists and included cleaning, endontics/root canals, restorative fillings, and extractions.
In addition to providing a number of free dental services to adult patients in need, the event sought to enhance the overall health of this population by creating a caring environment for health screening, education and referral services.
During the Health Equity Festival portion of the event, over twenty exhibitors provided wraparound health services including flu vaccines, health screenings (diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, BMI, CO) vision testing, insurance, and state health exchange assistance, nutrition information, mental health services, social services, and free haircuts.
The event was a collaborative effort by the dental and health care community, Catholic Charities of Washington and the University of Maryland Center for Health Equity.
