The Center of Excellence on Race, Ethnicity and Health Disparities Research (COE) is designed to be a vibrant contributor to the University of Maryland's re-invigorated land grant mission, which includes a commitment to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities and achieve health equity.  The COE grant supports a number of community outreach, engagement, and educational programs, as well as provides funding for three of the Center’s major research studies. This NIMHD-funded grant award number is 5P20MD006737.

The overall goals of the COE are to: 1) establish and sustain a community engaged research enterprise on critical health disparities, 2) raise the visibility of racial and ethnic health disparities and promising solutions with Marylanders and 3) facilitate action for change in the structural determinants of health in Maryland.
These goals will be accomplished through the efforts of the four Cores of the COE:
  1. Administrative (led by Drs. Quinn and Thomas, Project Director Dr. Susan Passmore, and M-CHE Associate Directors Drs. Butler, Fryer and Garza)
  2. Research (led by co-directors Drs. Sandra Hofferth, Fryer)
  3. Research Training and Education (led by Drs. Quinn, Butler and Ruth Zambrana)
  4. Community Engagement and Outreach (led by Drs. Thomas and Garza).
