Join us for the Seminal Research Lecture featuring Dr. Rickard Brånemark. Dr. Brånemark is a pioneer in osseointegration surgery (direct structural and functional connection between living bone and the surface of a load-bearing artificial implant for amputees). In June of 2015 the FDA provided an HDE approval (Humanitarian Device Exception) for use of his OPRA System (Osseointegrated Prosthesis for Rehabilitation of Amputees) for transfemoral amputees.

The lecture provides a unique opportunity to hear Dr. Brånemark share ground breaking advances regarding osseointegration and limb restoration. Through his innovative research, Dr. Brånemark has pioneered the expansion of osseointegration from a dental technique to a prosthesis fixation method for individuals with amputation. His presentation and future presentations to the U.S. community of limb restoration on these topics helps communicate not only the possibilities that osseointegration holds in store for amputees but also the necessity of engineering an osseointegrated implant that can remain compatible with future advances in prosthetic terminal devices-hands, feet and knees.

This event is hosted by Dr. Jae Kun Shim and the Department of Kinesiology.
