SPH new staff 2014

The School of Public Health is pleased to announce eight new staff members, who have joined the school since this summer. With these new additions, the collaborative school will continue to build capacity for student recruitment and support, communications, and research administration.

Dawn Rode Schettino, Office of the Dean
Director of Research Administration

Since 2004, Ms. Schettino has worked for the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UM-BI); she continued with the Institute when UMBI transitioned into the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (UM-IBBR) in 2010. During the past decade, Ms. Schettino has served in multiple business and research administration roles at the Institute, most recently serving as Senior Business Operations Manager. In that role, she was involved in overseeing both pre- and post-award management. 

Ms. Schettino received her BS in General Business Management from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and is currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Accounting program. 

Kristin Cipriani, Office of the Dean
Assistant Director, Public Health Science Program at College Park

Ms. Cipriani joins the School of Public Health from SHAPE America, where she directed and advised research initiatives in her role as the research manager. She completed both her BS and MA in Kinesiology here in the University of Maryland School of Public Health. For her Master's degree, Ms. Cipriani investigated the effects of physical activity on brain development.

As Assistant Director for the new Public Health Science program at College Park, Ms. Cipriani is helping to develop the Public Health Science Program, coordinating collaborative and academic efforts between the public health science programs at College Park and Shady Grove, as well as advising and recruiting students.

Audrey Hill, Office of the Dean
Communications Coordinator

Audrey Hill joins the School of Public Health from Palladian Partners, a health communications company, where she worked as a science writer and publications coordinator. At Palladian Partners, she primarily worked on projects for NIH and other federal agencies. For the first part of her career, she conducted outreach and strategic marketing at environmental nonprofit organizations. Ms. Hill holds a BA in environmental studies from Pomona College and an MA in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

At the School of Public Health, Ms. Hill creates and maintains web content, as well as supports the school’s various communication efforts, including event photography, social media, and the e-newsletter.

Jaime Oliver, Office of the Dean
Academic Advisor

Jaime Oliver most recently worked for the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation as a Student Affairs Coordinator. Previously, she served as an Academic Advisor at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Ms. Oliver received a BA in communication from the University of Maryland. In 2013, she received her MS in College Student Personnel.

As an Academic Advisor, Ms. Oliver is part of the undergraduate Center for Academic Success and Achievement, which provides advice to students on academic, career, and program options.

Carly Phelan, Office of the Dean
Coordinator

Ms. Phelan worked in the School of Public Health Dean’s Office as a student worker, while she completed her undergraduate degree. An alumna of the University of Maryland College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Carly completed her BA in Psychology.

Ms. Phelan serves as a coordinator in the School of Public Health’s business office. Her responsibilities include working with state and grant accounts, purchasing and travel expenses, and setting up appointments.

Kimberly Wensel, Office of the Dean
Graduate Coordinator

Ms. Wensel most recently served as a Program Officer on global family planning programs at Johns Hopkins University Center for Communications Programs. She also has community-level public health experience in violence prevention and women's health promotion. Ms. Wensel completed her BA in Communication from Virginia Tech and earned a Master of Public Health degree and Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan.

Ms. Wensel coordinates and develops SPH graduate programs and works to enhance the graduate student experience. Ms. Wensel provides support in the following areas: graduate admissions, graduate program recruitment, graduate student services, analytics and program planning. 

Prince Hunter, Behavioral and Community Health
Coordinator

Mr. Hunter joins the School of Public Health from his most recent position at the National Archives. He will be providing a wide-range of program support to the Department of Behavioral and Community Health in his role as a coordinator.

 

 

 

 

David Toledo, Health Services Administration
Business and Program Coordinator

David Toledo is an alumnus of the University of Maryland, class of 2011. He received his bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Asian American Studies and is finishing his MBA at UMUC in December. He has previously worked for the University of Maryland University College as an Academic Advisor and for the UMD English Department as an Administrative Assistant, focusing on event management and faculty affairs. Mr. Toledo has recently taken over as the Business and Program Coordinator for the Department of Health Services Administration.
