Eric A. Stone is from all over, and came to the University of Maryland for his PhD in Physical Cultural Studies. Eric began his collegiate studies at York College of Pennsylvania, earning his Bachelors degree in 2009 in history, with a minor in French. He received his master’s degree in Early Modern European History from the University of Sussex in Brighton, United Kingdom in 2011. After a discipline change, Eric now is actively engaged in the study of Physical Culture, especially in urban environments. Now in his third year, Eric is developing work on the physical cultural practices of Young Urban Professionals in Baltimore, seeking to examine how they are in the process of co-creating urban spaces that will continue to facilitate life in the city. He is also interested in examinations of the links between the Built Environment and Physical Activity, the Gamification of Fitness, Gentrification, embodied understandings of pain and injury, Sport for Development and Peace within the US context, and Sport for Social Inclusion.
