American Journal of Public Health: Strategies to Promote Public Trust and Health Equity

Denys T. Lau, PhD, is the Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH). He has been with AJPH for over 10 years, having previously served as an Associate Editor and a member of the Editorial Board. Dr. Lau has adjunct faculty appointments at Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Before becoming the Chief Editor of AJPH, he was a senior executive leader at the CDC National Center for Health Statistics for over a decade. He directed the division that administers the family of National Health Care Provider Surveys and spearheaded strategies to modernize the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to track our nation’s population health and health care use. Before his federal services, Dr. Lau spent a decade in academia first as Assistant Professor at Northwestern University and then Associate Professor at University of Illinois at Chicago. His academic research focused on the quality and safety of health services and medication use in older adult populations. Dr. Lau earned his PhD at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at University of Michigan, and received his BA from Cornell University.

Dr. Denys T. Lau will discuss the decline in public trust in public health and what strategies and directions is the American Journal of Public Health leading to promote public health trustworthiness, while continuing to advance health equity.  The presentation will describe how AJPH continues to publish high-quality science, cover diverse public health topics, and engage with key stakeholders.
