Connection and Mourning with Imam Tarif Shraim: A gathering for SPH's Muslim Community

1:15pm-2:15pm
Flyer

Location: Wellness Room, 0113 School of Public Health

This Wednesday and Thursday we will be offering spaces for students, staff, and faculty for connection, care, and mourning around the current war in Gaza and Israel.

The intention of these spaces is to offer intragroup opportunities for our Muslim and Jewish community within the School of Public Health (SPH) to be with two of our chaplains, Imam Tarif Shraim and Rabbi Eli Backman, as well as a third gathering as a secular/interfaith space. All three of these spaces will be focused on connection, grief, and care for ourselves and each other during such a painful time in our world. These sessions have been scheduled in this order only based on the availability of our chaplains and based on space. No RSVP is needed.

This Wednesday, December 6:

Connection and Mourning with Rabbi Eli Backman: A gathering for SPH's Jewish Community, 11am-12pm, LOCATION: SPH Wellness Room, 0113

Connection and Mourning with Imam Tarif Shraim: A gathering for SPH's Muslim Community, 1:15-2:15pm, LOCATION: SPH Wellness Room, 0113

This Thursday, December 7:

Secular and Interfaith Connection and Mourning for SPH's Community, 12:15-1pm,  LOCATION: SPH Wellness Room, 0113
This session will be led by SPH staff/faculty and will be a collective meditation space.

We extend our gratitude to chaplains Imam Tarif and Rabbi Eli (among multiple other chaplains in our UMD community) who have been supporting our students, faculty, and staff during this difficult time. In addition to these spaces, we want to remind everyone to reach out for support and if you, your students, or colleagues need help, please know that the Counseling CenterCenter for Healthy Families, and the Faculty Staff Assistance Program are available as resources for those who may be struggling.

Importantly, as we head towards the end of the semester in what has been a hard time for many: please take breaks, connect with others, ask for help, take care of yourselves, and practice self-compassion.
