Location: Virtual

Join the School of Public Health for a virtual town hall where our school, campus and community partners can gather in solidarity with Iranians and all members of our community who are concerned with human rights, most recently related to the death of Mahsa Amini.

This is also an opportunity for community members to discuss world conflicts, the impacts of the misuse of power and efforts to control people and marginalized groups, and efforts they are involved in to promote human rights.

If you would like to express how you are feeling, share a message of solidarity or support, or reflect upon how an experience of your own connects you to this current conflict, please email sphdean@umd.edu with the subject “Mahsa Amini”. Comments will be compiled to share with our community.

We, as an academic community, hold a responsibility to stand for human rights and disavow police and gender-based violence. We must harness the collective expertise and care of our students, faculty, staff and community partners to take a stance against authoritarianism and the many ways it threatens the health and freedom of all people. We call on everyone to participate in efforts to support the disruption of this violence and all forms of intimidation and conflict both abroad and domestically.
