She has been the PI on CDC, NIH, FDA and foundation grants focused on trust, vaccine acceptance, vaccine disparities, and communication during routine and emergency situations, and engagement of racial/ethnic minorities in research. Concurrent with her role as chair, she served as PI (with S.Thomas) on CommuniHealth (2021-2022) and was principal investigator of a local research team in Prince George’s County, MD and a member of the Working Committee on a Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative grant, “The Community’s Role in an Equitable and Effective COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout” (Communivax, 2020-21, Schoch-Spana and Brunson, PIs). She served as principal investigator (with X. Nan) on a MPowering the State grant, Predicting and Improving COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance Among African Americans during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
She served as Chair of the Planning Committee for a March 2022 National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) Workshop, Building Public Trust in Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response (PHEPR) Science: A Workshop. From 2018-2021, she served on the NASEM committee on Evidence-Based Practice for Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response. During the pandemic, she served as a member of the expert panel on older adults for the NIH funded, COVID-19 Prevention Network and the Maryland SARS CoV-2 Vaccine Technical Advisory Group. During the pandemic, she was an invited speaker for multiple organizations on trust, vaccine confidence, implications of the emergency use authorization mechanism, and building effective, community-engaged vaccine initiatives.
Dr. Quinn played numerous administrative roles including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the SPH and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Education at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (2002-2010). She was an active leader in the Society for Public Health Education, and guest editor of multiple theme issues of Health Education & Behavior, Health Promotion Practice and the American Journal of Public Health. Her greatest joy was her work with many students, post-doctoral fellows and young faculty.
