Maria Steenland
Assistant Professor, Family Science
Dr. Steenland is an Assistant Professor in Family Science in the School of Public Health at the
University of Maryland, College Park. She is a health services and health policy researcher
focused on maternal and reproductive health policy in the United States. Her research uses
econometric methods to evaluate maternal and reproductive health programs and policies, with
a particular focus on Medicaid policy. The overarching goal of her research is to identify policy
options to increase the equity and quality of women’s health services. Her previous research
has examined the effect of Medicaid payment policies for immediate postpartum contraception,
and expansions of Medicaid eligibility in pregnant and postpartum populations.
