Eight faculty will begin the 2026-2027 academic year with a new recognition of their expertise in research and education. The positions go into effect in July and August.
“These well-deserved promotions demonstrate the high bar our University of Maryland School of Public Health faculty set in providing topnotch teaching and advancing groundbreaking research on topics from improving longevity to clean water to mitochondrial energy production during exercise and in disease,” said SPH Dean Boris Lushniak. “I commend them for work well done and know we can expect great achievements from them going forward.”
Three faculty have been granted tenure:
- Dr. Sarah Kuzmiak-Glancy in the Department of Kinesiology (KNES) was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor. Areas of expertise include heart and skeletal muscle metabolism, mitochondrial function and exercise physiology.
- Dr. Rachel Rosenberg Goldstein in the Department of Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health, was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor. Areas of expertise include environmental microbiology, water reuse, sewage backups, environmental communication, urban agriculture and wellness.
- Dr. Dahai Yue in the Department of Health Policy and Management was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor. His current research examines the effects of housing, childhood environments, public health insurance and care coordination on healthcare utilization and mortality.
Two tenured faculty have been promoted:
- Dr. Ross Miller in KNES was promoted from associate professor to professor. His studies focus on the biomechanics of human movement, primarily walking and running, with an emphasis on joint loading and knee osteoarthritis.
- Dr. Steven Prior in KNES was promoted from associate professor to professor. His lab conducts exercise intervention studies to determine mechanisms by which the risk for aging-associated muscular and functional impairments may be reduced in older adults.
Three professional track (PTK) faculty have been promoted:
- Dr. Andrea Liberto in KNES was promoted from lecturer to senior lecturer. Her areas of expertise include the impact of physical activity programs on sense of community, social connectedness, and student well-being in undergraduate populations.
- Grace McManus in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health was promoted from faculty specialist to senior faculty specialist. She is the project coordinator for the evaluation of the Central East Addiction Technology Transfer Center and Prevention Technology Transfer Center, covering HHS Region 3.
- Dr. Jamie Trevitt in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics was promoted from assistant clinical professor to associate clinical professor. Her areas of expertise include population health, social epidemiology, reproductive health and demographic methods.
