The University of Maryland School of Public Health leapt a few more notches in the annual U.S. News and World Report rankings for schools of public health. UMD SPH as a whole advanced to 22nd place from 25th last year, a sign of the growth of the school both in robust research and academic offerings and in its national reputation.

“These rankings are a testament to the pillars that make our School great: Dynamic courses taught by expert faculty, a wide range of experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for successful careers, cutting-edge research building new solutions for better health, and a community where everyone belongs,” said SPH Dean Boris Lushniak. “We’re proud to be among the nation’s best, and know that well beyond College Park, our University of Maryland School of Public Health is shaping committed, brilliant leaders to do good in the world of health.”

Along with the school as a whole, several areas within SPH earned kudos in the influential reputational survey. Across academic programs, in the “Social Behavior” category, UMD SPH ranked #17. The School ranked #20 for “Health Policy and Management.” Biostatistics ranked #22, while epidemiology moved up to #24 in the nation, one slot above last year.

The numbers climb higher when accounting for only public schools, which typically have lower base tuition costs for students. Among public universities, UMD SPH ranked 13th.

"Our strong rankings reflect our commitment to equipping students with the critical skills and leadership abilities needed to address the most pressing public health challenges of today and in the future,” said Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Jennifer Bachner. “As the field continues to evolve, our graduates are prepared to navigate complexity, drive innovation and make a lasting, positive impact."

Established in 2007 at one of the nation’s leading research institutions, the University of Maryland School of Public Health has more than 30 academic programs — including bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and certificate programs, in-person and online options – and specialties from global health to family health, kinesiology to epidemiology to health policy, and so much more. At the UMD School of Public Health, we cultivate an educational experience that prepares students to make a positive difference in the world.
