Research Centers

The interdisciplinary Center on Aging is dedicated to “healthy and productive” aging and the creation of age-friendly communities. Researchers are involved with many of the health, economic and social policy issues that concern us as we grow older.

The Center for Healthy Families serves hundreds of families each year with premarital counseling, couple/marriage and family therapy and parent education. Staff therapists are graduate students who are supervised by faculty members and clinical experts. Their practice is informed by research that measures the impact of clinical services on individuals and families. 

Center for Seniors Uniting Nationwide to Support Health, INtegrated care, and Economics, known as the Center for SUNSHINE, an interdisciplinary collaboration funded by the National Institute on Aging.

The Center on Young Adult Health and Development focuses on the behavioral health of young adults.

The CONSERVE Center combines research, outreach, and education initiatives to reduce the nation’s agricultural water challenges, mitigate climate change and support safe and healthy food systems.

The GHI supports diverse research, service and educational activities aimed at improving health across the globe led by members of the SPH community and partners across the University of Maryland. 

The Herschel S. Horowitz Center for Health Literacy advances research in health communication and health literacy, and translates that research into education and community action that improves health for all. 

The Maryland Center for Health Equity's community-engaged research enterprise focuses on eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities and facilitating action for change in the structural determinants of health in Maryland.

The UMD Prevention Research Center's mission is to improve mental health and eliminate health disparities and related social injustices experienced by LGBTQ+ persons.
