Nearly 40 scholars and fellows spend the summer focusing on environmental and climate justice, gaining research skills and developing mentor-mentee relationships.

As ambassadors, the UMD School of Public Health students and 80 others from around the world will exemplify ASPPH’s core mission of improved health and well-being for everyone, everywhere.

The internship program provides emerging social sector leaders with meaningful opportunities to gain professional experience, develop skills, build a professional network and learn more about working in the nonprofit and social impact sphere.

Along with higher health care costs overall, Americans spend an average of $1,300 per person on prescription drugs - more than any other country in the world. Part of the problem lies in the complexity of how prescription drug prices are set. They are determined by complex negotiations between pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy benefit managers and health insurance companies.

With gunshot injuries in Washington, D.C. up nearly 20% from this time last year, a new analysis tool developed by a University of Maryland School of Public Health doctoral student is helping district leaders detect surges in gun violence, monitor at-risk groups and understand trends.

While she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in public health science on May 23, 2023, Taliah Hodges has had little time to rest. That’s because she’s gearing up for the final year of her accelerated BS+MPH program and preparing to become a teaching assistant for a foundational public health course.

More than 30 faculty members and students from the University of Maryland School of Public Health, University of Birmingham in England and University College Dublin in Ireland spent three days swapping experiences, sharing research and touring the University of Maryland as part of the first Universitas 21 Health Research Exchange (U21HREx) research symposium held at the University of Maryland School of Public Health in College Park and the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. 

Nine years after his journey to earn a doctoral degree began, Junaed Siddiqui crossed the stage at the Xfinity Center on May 23, 2023 to officially graduate from the School of Public Health. While the average public health doctoral student at UMD completes their Ph.D. within five years, Siddiqui is far from average.

The Gamma Zeta chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Public Health is pleased to announce its 2023 inductees. Inducted are 12 students, five faculty members, two alumni and one community partner.

Each Spring, the University of Maryland School of Public Health recognizes undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated excellence and dedication in their educational and public health service activities.

This year’s Celebration of Scholarships and Student Awards, which took place on Thursday, May 11, honored more than 100 students who received scholarships, fellowships and awards in 2022 and 2023.
