Each Spring, the University of Maryland School of Public Health recognizes undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated excellence and dedication in their educational and public health service activities.

This year’s Celebration of Scholarships and Student Awards, which took place on Thursday, May 11, honored more than 100 students who received scholarships, fellowships and awards in 2022 and 2023.

The University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and the School of Public Health announced today the awardees of their inaugural Healthy Places Seed Grants - a funding program designed to spark innovative research around the challenges of building healthy, equitable communities. Eight projects received grants through the program.

Faculty from the School of Public Health will receive unprecedented funding to tackle some of society's biggest challenges, including a $3M grant to create an international alliance focused on alleviating food, energy and water insecurity, protecting environmental and global public health and bolstering community resilience in a changing climate.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, SPH faculty and staff convened for the spring assembly which included the annual awards ceremony honoring outstanding teaching, public health practice, service, mentoring and commitment to the school’s success and community. New this year, the 2nd Lieutenant Richard W. Collins III “Courage Against Hate” award was established through a partnership with Richard’s mother Mrs. Dawn Collins. The School of Public Health and Mrs.

Each year during Convocation, the University of Maryland School of Public Health recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence and dedication in their educational and public health service activities.

This year’s Convocation, which took place on Wednesday, May 4, honored more than 180 students who received scholarships, fellowships and awards in 2021 and 2022.

Students were nominated by their respective departments for this special recognition and were congratulated by their department chairs and Dean Boris Lushniak.

The Gamma Zeta chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Public Health is pleased to announce its 2022 inductees. At the virtual induction ceremony and poster awards reception on May 6, 2022, Dean Boris Lushniak, Principal Associate Dean Dushanka Kleinman, inducted 17 students, four faculty members, two alumni and one honorary member, Dr. Dianna Abney.

The University of Maryland School of Public Health has surpassed its fundraising goal for the University of Maryland's campaign, Fearless Ideas: The Campaign for Maryland. The School's record $26.3M raised reflects a 188% increase from our original goal of $14M for the period July 2014 through December 2021.

The University of Maryland will be holding its campuswide Spring 2021 Commencement in person on Friday, May 21, 2021. In order to accommodate all graduates while practicing safe physical distancing, the ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. The School of Public Health's designated ceremony time is at 4 p.m. 

On Wednesday, May 12, faculty, staff and SPH leaders convened for the virtual spring assembly where faculty and staff were honored for their outstanding service and commitment to the school.
