COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The University of Maryland will lead an eight-country research consortium to develop an artificial intelligence-powered early warning system to help communities prepare for and respond to diarrheal disease risks – and potentially other conditions – worsened by extreme weather events. 

It’s a common “medical” complaint: You switch to a new doctor and find that electronic health records from your old clinic or from urgent care or specialist visits have not moved with you – leading to a déjà vu of filling out the same forms you’ve filled out a hundred times before.

Dr. Samantha Snyder, Ph.D. ’25, has always been interested in human movement. With a freshly minted doctorate in kinesiology from the School of Public Health, Snyder is wasting no time, already applying her diverse skills to make a difference for people with knee osteoarthritis, a common and painful condition.
