Dr. Shanéa Thomas (he/she/Dr.) is on a mission to get individuals in the LGBTQ+ community the mental health care – and the empathy – they need and deserve. 

For about 30 campers from Prince George’s County, this summer is a time for sports – all the sports. They’re playing soccer, flag football, frisbee and more. And – judging by the smiles even on a hot day at the University of Maryland campus – they’re having a fantastic time.

 Pamela I. Clark, Ph.D., a research professor emerita in the University of Maryland School of Public Health’s Department of Behavioral and Community Health, died on May 16 at the age of 77 at home. 

School of Public Health alumna Regina Webb (B.S. ’06) has been recognized as one of Maryland The Daily Record’s Leading Women, awards that honor women 40 or younger for their significant accomplishments in community involvement and commitment to inspiring change.

Sidiki Keita ’23 has always had a passion for physical activity. An avid athlete, his love for sports such as wrestling and track led him to pursue a degree in kinesiology. This spring, Keita was awarded the Whitlark Endowed Scholarship for his strong academics, potential for leadership in public health and commitment to integrating physical activity and public health. He plans on becoming a physician assistant (PA) and will apply to PA school.

The world is barely out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the threat of another virus jumping from animals to humans looms large in our daily newsfeeds. As public health officials follow the spread of the rapidly evolving bird flu H5N1, a review of the scientific literature suggests domestic cats can get bird flu and transmit it to humans, and should be monitored.
