Family Science graduates are off doing exceptional work in their post-undergraduate lives. The Family Science department here at the University of Maryland (UMD) would like to recognize Oluwaseun Ajimoko, a former undergraduate student and current Howard University law student. In her time at UMD, Oluwaseun was a three-sport student-athlete, participating in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track and field. Oluwaseun graduated from our program in the Spring of 2018 and continued her academic journey at Georgetown University where she received her Masters in Health and the Public Interest in 2019. She is currently starting her second year of law school at Howard University and was offered membership to the Howard Law Journal, considered the top publication at Howard Law!

When asked about her current law program Oluwaseun stated, “I am so happy I chose to attend Howard Law. The institution provides an excellent legal education with a diversified experience, an environment that will likely never be replicated. Since finishing my first year, I have strengthened my writing skills and developed the confidence that is pertinent to oral advocacy. At the end of my first year, I was able to work at a law firm in D.C. in their Life Sciences group, an exciting look into the future work I will be doing. By the end of the summer, I was extended membership to the Howard Law Journal. I am currently working on a student note that will be published next year.”

Oluwaseun thanks her UMD Law Instructor and Mentor, Dr. Kerry Tripp, Principal Lecturer, for preparing her for law school. Oluwaseun expressed, “I am super grateful to have crossed paths with Professor Tripp. Prior to coming to college, I always heard of professors who have major impacts on the lives of students and I never resonated with that until I reflected on my relationship with her. From the moment I expressed my desire to go to law school she supported and guided me. While enrolled in “Law, Public Health, and the Cuban Family” my interest in the intersectionality between public health and the law was ignited. Aside from being a great professor, she has served as an excellent mentor whose impact on my life has been profound.”

The Department of Family Science is proud of Oluwaseun and wishes her well as she goes on to complete her law degree at Howard. Congratulations Oluwaseun and please keep in touch!
