The Spring 2018 SPH faculty and staff assembly included plenty of great news about school and department-level accomplishments, and laughter and good cheer during the faculty and staff awards.
Dean Boris Lushniak spoke warmly about this being the culmination of the SPH ten-year anniversary celebration, highlighting the various celebrations that happened over the course of the academic year. He noted that the SPH commencement ceremony, happening this Saturday, May 19th, will mark the end of our anniversary year and the start of our second decade.
Dean Lushniak then presented ten-year service awards to Kelly Blake, Tracy Kennedy and Maurice Rocque. Andrew McCarty received a five-year award.
With a sly twinkle in her eye, Dr. Betty Brown emceed the faculty and staff awards, which were kicked off with the dramatic entrance of two students wearing lab coats, latex gloves and masks. They carried a Styrofoam cooler containing the award nominations which, Dr. Brown explained, had been sealed and kept in sterile conditions.
Where possible, last year’s winners presented this year’s recipients with their awards. The following faculty and staff members received awards:
- Department of Behavioral and Community Health
- Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health
- Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
- Department of Family Science
- Department of Health Policy and Management
- Department of Kinesiology
- School of Public Health
