The partisan divide in the United States throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has stretched beyond differences in attitudes about masking, social distancing and vaccines.

Christopher King PhD ’13, who earned his doctoral degree in health services research from the University of Maryland School of Public Health, has been named as the inaugural dean of the Georgetown School of Health.

The University of Maryland has formalized one of its global partnerships, solidifying an existing relationship and opening the doors for enhanced collaboration. In May, School of Public Health Dean Boris Lushniak along with Dean Craig Beyrouty of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, signed a memorandum of understanding with Vice Chancellor Laban Ayiro of Daystar University in Kenya.

On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, the School of Public Health held an event to share and discuss findings on indicators of health and sustainability for Baltimore, Maryland, which was among 25 cities studied in a new  ‘Urban Design, Transport and Health” series, published in The Lancet Global Health.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, SPH faculty and staff convened for the spring assembly which included the annual awards ceremony honoring outstanding teaching, public health practice, service, mentoring and commitment to the school’s success and community. New this year, the 2nd Lieutenant Richard W. Collins III “Courage Against Hate” award was established through a partnership with Richard’s mother Mrs. Dawn Collins. Dr. Elisabeth Maring, associate director of the Global Health Initiative, director of the Global Public Health Scholars Program, faculty advisor for Public Health Beyond Borders and professor of Family Science has added another title: winner of the Donna B. Hamilton Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
