Capping off a week of School of Public Health events as part of National Public Health Week, SPH hosted an Emmy Award-winning documentarian

Several School of Public Health faculty were singled out for accolades at this year’s Maryland Research Excellence Celebration, which honors the distinct and notable accomplishments of University of Maryland researchers.

The School of Public Health (SPH) Alumni Network awarded the Public Health Emerging and Engaging Leaders (PHEEL) Award to seven outstanding recent graduates in April 2025. Each honoree was selected for their excellence in their career progression, service and leadership. 

The University of Maryland School of Public Health leapt a few more notches in the annual U.S. News and World Report rankings for schools of public health.

Beating out tough competition, three public health undergraduates won first place in the Innovation Lab Pitch competition, hosted by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH).

From shaping national health policy to running a food company that brings communities together through Filipino cuisine, Christopher Silayan DeVore ’14 is a testament to the versatility of a public health degree. With a passion for legislative advocacy and a deep commitment to cultural connection, DeVore has built a career that integrates policy, public service, and entrepreneurship.
