Arielle Wharton

Lecturer and Faculty Advisor, ENSP-Environmental Justice

Arielle Wharton serves as a Lecturer and Advisor for the Undergraduate Environmental Justice (EJ) Specialization in the Department of Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health (GEOH) at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. She holds a bachelor’s degree in GIS and Computer Cartography from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in Applied Meteorology and Climatology, from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. With a background in weather and climate, Arielle is driven by a commitment to address the intersection of climate change, environmental injustices, and health inequities through informed decision-making, community engagement and the development of innovative strategies to mitigate its effects across frontline and fenceline communities.

Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Arielle has lived in various countries including Saudi Arabia and the UK. Her ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds enriches the work at UMD.
