Heather K. Amato
Dr. Heather Amato is an environmental epidemiologist investigating drivers of microbial pathogen transmission through a One Health lens. She uses spatial and molecular epidemiology to evaluate the impacts of interventions, including water, sanitation, and hygiene and mass drug administration, that may curb the spread of pathogens and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Her research leverages environmental pathogen surveillance and centers community knowledge to understand key exposure pathways among vulnerable populations, especially mothers and young children, people experiencing homelessness, and farmworkers. Dr. Amato has ongoing collaborations in Nepal, Benin, India, and the U.S. to tackle AMR and other critical global health issues.
Dr. Amato is accepting PhD students for the Fall 2025 application cycle.
