Prior, associate professor and associate chair for research in the Department of Kinesiology, will receive $150,000 to fund his research on how exercise impacts vascular and functional impairment in older adults.

Named for the late university supporter and Washington-area publisher, the Philip Merrill Presidential Scholars Program recognizes top graduating seniors at the University of Maryland and the professors and K-12 teachers who mentored them.

Gedion joined the School of Public Health in spring 2023 after earning her associate degree from Howard Community College. She is studying with Associate Professor Sushant Ranadive, exploring the effects of acute inflammation on vascular function and how those effects vary among different racial and demographic groups. 

Dr. Braun, a professor emerita in the University of Maryland School of Public Health’s Department of Family Science and the first Endowed Chair and Founding Director of the Herschel S. Horowitz Center for Health Literacy, held a dual faculty appointment with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

During the lecture, Dr. Laura Herrera Scott provided a comprehensive overview of Maryland's ongoing initiatives to address the challenges of children and youth behavioral health.

Chawin Reilly is a health policy analyst with the Maryland Department of Health. He works in the department’s Medicaid Provider Enrollment division, where he helps healthcare providers who serve the state’s Medicaid patients navigate the enrollment process. His team works directly with 110,000 providers, including individual physicians, hospitals and health systems in Maryland and neighboring states.
