The research and service initiatives in the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health represent the diversity of environmental health science, ranging from a holistic systems approach to examining environmental pollutant exposures links with childhood neurocognitive development and racial disparities in health to exciting and timely investigations exploring the airborne transmission of COVID-19. Our faculty, staff and students are involved in cutting-edge research and service initiatives to provide decision-makers, communities and the public at large with critical information to protect human health and that of an ever-changing environment. For example, the Chemical Exposure Assessment Laboratory provides internal and external researchers with urine, blood and saliva analytical capabilities and the Community Engagement, Environmental Justice and Health Initiative provides technical assistance to communities to address environmental justice issues.
