Join our panel to discuss the historical persistence of implicit bias and how it affects our clinical decisions and what we can do to fight it in the clinical setting.

Objectives

  • Explain how some of our clinical knowledge was acquired through unethical and racist practices.
  • Discuss ways to reduce the impact of implicit bias.
  • Describe the historical context and present-day role of structural racism and its impact on the health care system.
  • Use information to combat structural racism at the institutional level and reduce the impact of implicit bias on patient care, research, and inter-professional relationships.

Maryland Physicians must take an implicit bias CME before 2022 licensing. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through Baltimore County Medical Association. Baltimore County Medical Association is accredited by MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society, to provide Continuing Medical Education for physicians.
