October is Health Literacy Month! Our Horowitz Center for Health Literacy is holding its fourth annual Health Literacy in Action conference October 14-15, 2021.

If the last two years have done anything, they have highlighted the importance of public health and the increased need for attention to global health across almost all aspects of our interconnected society.

But Rachel Bell ‘93 (Accounting) and Anthony Samer already knew this. 

Travis Hyams, PhD '20 in Behavioral and Community Health, has been selected as Presidential Management Fellow with the All of Us Research Program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Hyams will help the program reach an ambitious goal, to recruit more than one million people nationwide to be a part of one of the most diverse medical databases in history.

Every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia. With a growing aging population, the number of dementia cases is expected to triple by 2050. Because there’s no cure, researchers like fourth year PhD student Daniel Callow are focusing their efforts on prevention measures.

A new study led by University of Maryland researchers used Twitter data to take the nation’s pulse on race-related sentiments and suggests that changes in attitudes—particularly about anti-Black sentiment—were short-lived following the high-profile killings of Floyd and other unarmed Black people in early 2020.
