Strategic Plan 2024-2030

The School of Public Health is developing a new strategic plan (2024-2030) to continue its pursuit of excellence in preparing the future workforce, creating new knowledge and programs, and providing service to the community to promote the public's health and well-being.

The plan will build and expand upon the previous SPH strategic plan (2018-2023) and UMD’s Fearlessly Forward strategic plan (2022).

Nexight, a local consulting company, and the SPH Strategic Plan Advisory Committee have prepared drafts of a new mission, vision and values statement based on responses from the SPH Strategic Plan Survey.

Mission (draft) - Innovate interdisciplinary education and research while engaging with diverse communities to empower next-generation public health professionals and the public to promote and protect the health of all.

Vision (draft) - Lead Maryland and beyond in achieving optimal, equitable health and well-being for all.

Values (draft) - To enact our mission and vision, the School of Public Health:

  • Pursues discovery and innovation in our teaching, research, practice, and service
  • Acts with integrity and respect, and is socially responsible
  • Promotes justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism
  • Optimizes lifelong learning to meet current and future public health workforce needs
  • Empowers diverse communities through meaningful engagement
  • Fosters collaboration across disciplines and SPH stakeholders
  • Communicates information accurately and clearly with all audiences and communities

As a member of the School of Public Health community, you are invited to share your feedback on these drafts. Please email Rachel Lanspa ( with comments.
