Master of Health Administration (MHA)

Sara Sisselman '17 is using the skills she learned in the Masters of Health Administration program each day as she navigates the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic as the manager for two primary care offices and an urgent care unit for Virginia Hospital Center. She oversees all day to day operations as well as patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. 

Maria graduated from Simmons College in Boston, MA in 2012 with a BA in Political Science and Communications. She has spent the past few years working in the US House of Representatives, where she continues to learn the legislative process. Maria joined the MPH in Public Health Practice and Policy (PHPP) program to specialize in healthcare policy and learn the skills to analyze, develop and advocate for policies to improve health and reduce illness in the United States.

Duane J. Wallace II earned both his bachelor's (Behavioral and Community Health) and master's degrees from the University of Maryland School of Public Health. Duane is a project director at Shattuck & Associates, Inc., where he provides public health evaluation services to federal, state, local and grassroots social service agencies and organizations. He is also a doctoral candidate and adjust professor at Morgan State University.

Daisy Le is a tenure-track assistant professor in the policy, populations and systems department at the George Washington University School of Nursing.

Before coming to the University of Maryland, Dr. Heather Platter received her Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees in Family, Youth and Community Sciences from the University of Florida. As a doctoral student in behavioral and community health at the University of Maryland, she was a graduate assistant in the Horowitz Center for Health Literacy, as well as a Rudd Health Literacy Fellow.

One of the early acts of new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt was to reverse the 2015 federal ban on chlorpyrifos, a dangerous pesticide proven to harm children and developing fetuses. This reversal—challenged by Maryland and other states—was overruled last summer but a lift on the ban is currently being reconsidered in U.S. appeals court.

A new, three-year study led by Associate Professor of Environmental Health Sacoby Wilson and Assistant Professor of Urban Planning Marccus Hendricks will analyze the impact that exposure to environmental contaminants associated with natural disasters has on vulnerable communities.
