Gymkana's classes extend the philosophy of the University of Maryland Gymkana Troupe by providing an opportunity for children and adults of all abilities to learn gymnastics, while stressing healthy, drug-free living. Our program provides an environment to learn and participate in gymnastics without the pressure of competition.

Each session is packed with recreation, fun and gymnastics that match your ability level from beginner to advanced. Our classes are taught by our enthusiatic and talented University of Maryland Gymkana Staff and Troupe Members. We provide a fun, progressive learning environment in a well maintained and secure facility.

COVID Safety Protocols for Gymkana Classes

Effective March 4, 2023, face masks are optional. To protect the health of our students, staff, and community:

  • Please continue to monitor for symptoms and observe the latest CDC guidance on exposure and isolation for COVID-19.
  • KN95 face masks that securely cover the nose and mouth are strongly encouraged for anyone with a negative COVID test but still experiencing symptoms or with recent close exposures.

For FREE PARKING, the recommended parking area for Gymkana Saturday Program are:

  • The Terrapin Trail Parking Garage (Lot 6), located adjacent to the Xfinity Center. This parking garage is easily reached from University Blvd (rt. 193). Map Directions

  • Lot PH1 (formerly 2F), located between the "Campus Farm" and the School of Public Health. Map Directions

Pay for parking spaces are also located directly in front of the School of Public Health.

Parking restrictions may be subject to change without prior notice. Please always review posted signage for parking restrictions enforced by the University of Maryland Department of Transportation. Gymkana is not responsible for any issued citations.

Session balances must be paid in full prior to participation. A $35 cancellation fee for each class registration will be deducted from the refund balance. No tuition reductions or refunds will apply for late arrivals, early departures, or missed days.

Gym Tots

Boys & Girls Gymnastics (ages 5,6 & 7*)

The Gymkana GymTots class is for children ages 5, 6 and 7*. These students will be taught basic motor skills as well as elementary gymnastics according to their individual skill level. Instruction areas include basic tumbling, trampoline, and gymnastic apparatuses.

*Students age 7 who have prior gymnastic experience may enroll in the older children's classes with special permission.

Youth Trampoline

Boys & Girls Trampoline (Ages 8-14)
Beginner - Intermediate

The Gymkana Youth Trampoline class is a co-ed program for boys and girls ages 8-14. These students will be taught trampoline skills using the trampoline and double mini-trampoline.

Girls Gymnastics (Ages 8-14)
Beginner - Intermediate

The Gymkana Girls Gymnastics class is a program for girls ages 8-14. These students will be taught gymnastics skills according to their individual ability levels. Instruction for this class will be focused on tumbling, balance beam and uneven bars.

Boys Gymnastics (Ages 8-14)
Beginner - Intermediate

The Gymkana Boys Gymnastics class is a program for boys ages 8-14. These students will be taught gymnastics skills according to their individual ability levels. Instruction for this class will be focused on tumbling, parallel bars, rings, pommel horse and high bar.

Boys & Girls Tumbling (Ages 8-14)
Beginner - Intermediate

The focus of this class will be teaching tumbling skills from basic fundamentals to more advanced skills including handsprings, flipping and twisting motions.

Adult Class Descriptions

Adult tumbling

Ages 14+
Beginner - Intermediate

Gymnastics is a great way to improve performance in other sports, as well as overall fitness and functional strength. This class provides instruction on fundamental tumbling skills that may include (but are not limited to) handstands, rolls, cartwheels, handsprings, and flips.

Adult Trampoline

Ages 14+
Beginner - Intermediate

The Gymkana Adult Trampoline class is a co-ed program for adults interested in learning trampoline skills. This class will primarily provide instruction on trampolines and double mini-trampolines.

Choice workout

Youth and Adults (Ages 12 & up)
Beginner - Advanced

This session offers a unique practice experience that allows participants to work on the apparatuses and skills of their choice. Gymkana's instructors can assist in working with men's and women's gymnastic apparatuses, trampolines, basic tumbling, and hand balancing skills. Spring floor use is NOT available in this session. These practice sessions do not include a structured lesson format, so participants are encouraged to have specific goals/skills to work on.

Aerial Silks

Aerial Silks - Level 1

Adults (Ages 14 & up)

This class is designed for students who have no to minimal aerial silks experience. This class will focus on basic climbing, foot lock, slip knots, inversion skills, double foot locking and conditioning.

 

Aerial Silks - Level 2

 

Adults (Ages 14 & up)

This class requires mastery of skills taught in Level 1, and will begin to introduce more challenging skills and basic drops. Prerequisite skills include:

  • Single and double foot locks
  • Crochet and same side knee hook from standing
  • Pullover in slip knot
  • Basic climbs
  • Half moon skill in single foot lock

 

Aerial Silks - Level 3

 

Adults (Ages 14 & up)

This class requires mastery of skills taught in Level 2, and will focus on more complex skills in foot locks, hip keys, and various types of drops. During this session, students will begin to sequence aerial skills from the ground to the air. Prerequisite skills include:

  • Inversions from one climb in the air
  • Advanced slip knot
  • Crossback straddle
  • Hip key thread through
  • Basic crochet and single knee drops
