In his first week on the job, President Joe Biden signed several climate-related executive orders, including rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, halting the construction of the Keystone pipeline and aggressively expanding and investing in efforts to fight environmental racism in disadvantaged communities that have suffered the most from pollution.

With COVID-19 dramatically demonstrating the need for a robust, well-funded and equity-focused public health system, a new $1.5 million gift to the University of Maryland School of Public Health (SPH) will support efforts to prepare a new generation of public health leaders—a diverse group ready to confront challenges ranging from disease pandemics to systemic racism, the climate crisis and more.

Assistant Professor Elizabeth Aparicio was selected as a 2021 Society for Social Work and Research Fellow and inducted on Jan. 21, 2021, during the SSWR 2021 virtual conference. 

Our new website will replace the existing website that launched more than six years ago. It was built using Drupal templates created for the university to use for multiple purposes, which enabled us to save costs.
