The UMD-PRC provides unique education, research, and training opportunities for students in the area of SGM health equity. Our students gain various research and public health practice experiences through the UMD-PRC and affiliated projects.
We currently have two affiliated research groups that support student and postdoctoral training in prevention science: The Community THRIVES (PI: Dr. Elizabeth Aparicio) and SOGI Health research (PI: Dr. Jessica Fish) labs.
Meet our Community Advisory Board!
Our CAB is composed of experts in LGBTQ+ mental health, whether due to their community work and advocacy, research experience, clinical experience, legislative work, or more. Integral to our projects, the CAB contributes to UMD-PRC efforts at all levels.
The Office of Public Health Practice & Community Engagement has developed a strong partnership with the enBloom Collective. This partnership began with a common interest in being involved in the transformation of the Crownsville Hospital in Anne Arundel County, MD, and has grown to be a partnership for offering students, faculty, and staff practice opportunities around equitable, holistic health and wellness for Marylanders.
The UMD School of Public Health has had a long-standing partnership with the health curriculum team in the Calvert County Public Schools System. Teams of SPH students have prepared health curricula and activities for middle and high school students. In the Spring of 2023, the Office of Public Health Practice & Community Engagement partnered again with the health curriculum team to assist in developing the classroom activities and materials for the Health 2 high school curriculum to be implemented in the Fall of 2023.
