The Horowitz Center for Health Literacy was created in 2007 to advance the science in health literacy and health communication, and to translate that science into education and community action that improves health outcomes. We are the only health literacy research center in a school of public health. The Center has conducted research on health insurance literacy, maternal and child health, community based health literacy, and oral health.

Dr. Cynthia Baur, Center Director, is the Practice Editor for HLRP: Health Literacy Research and Practice, an interdisciplinary and international open-access publication dedicated to promoting excellence in research and practice to advance the field of health literacy, promote health equity, and reduce health disparities.
