Matt is a second-year Family Science doctoral student who is passionate about fatherhood research. He has two active children and recently celebrated his 12th wedding anniversary. Culturally, Matt is half Puerto Rican and a quarter Japanese. His multicultural upbringing has taught him the value of respecting people of different ethnic backgrounds. Matt has a particular heart for Latino families and particularly wants to encourage fathers. His research interests include the role of fathers in child development, mobile health (mHealth) app design and development, and Latino parenting interventions.
Before coming to graduate school, Matt was a professional website developer for several nonprofits in the Dallas Texas area. He hopes to use his technology background to build innovative web-based tools to help family practitioners, fatherhood interventions, and other health-related organizations.
